The following events occurred on October 22.

  • At 1:38 AM, Griff Tannen and his gang send Martin McFly Jr. into the Hill Valley Payroll Substation to burglarize it.
  • When the alarm is triggered, Griff and his gang disappear leaving him behind to be arrested.
  • Martin is charged and sentenced within two hours to fifteen years in the state penitentiary.
  • THe Hill Valley edition of USA Today reports the story of Martin's arrest on the front page with the headline "YOUTH JAILED". After history is altered, the story changes to one about the arrest of Griff and his gang the day before, with the headline "GANG JAILED".
